The Gentlemans Exit

Bold Venture Press is humbled by an unexpected recognition, which reinforces our motive to reprint and respect "old pulp" while recognizing and publishing great "new pulp."

A round of applause is due for Andrew Bourelle — his story "The Gentleman's Exit" (Pulp Adventures #29) received a very honorable mention. His story is listed among the "Other Distinguished Mystery Stories of 2018" in The Best American Mystery Stories 2019 (new from Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company). Jonathan Letham is the guest editor, backed up by legendary series editor Otto Penzler, whose Mysterious Bookstore in New York City has long been a mecca for mystery and suspense afficianados.

"The Gentleman's Exit" is featured on the coveted back-cover placement of Pulp Adventures #29, on the flipside of "The Absent Corpse" by Charles Boeckman (cover by H.J. Ward). In the thrilling (but distinguished) story, an international hitman’s retirement plans include evading three rival assassins pursuing him through Europe.

The issue also edition also reprints stories from early pulp authors Charles Boeckman, Theodore Roscoe, Albert Richard Wetjen and Laurence Donovan. Additional "new pulp" writers include Jack Bludis (under his pen name Jack Burns), Adam Beau McFarlane, David Bernard, the late Johnny Strike, Gary Lovisi and Rie Sheridan Rose. The issue uses original pulp art but also introduced a new pulp fiction artist Aleena Valentine-Lopez.

Congratulations, Andrew. Don't keep us waiting for your next story!
